The inauguration of the 44th President of the United States is just around the corner and many of you will be participating in a variety of celebrations to welcome the first African American president. IMPACT is proud to support the inaugural activities of The Young & Powerful Group. Activities are scheduled to begin on January 17, 2009. The Young and Powerful Group consists of young professionals dedicated to raising the political, economic, and social awareness of the community through building grassroots support for civic engagement opportunities and rising leaders dedicated to the mission of Young and Powerful. The organization also provides tools to create viable networks through social and professional development opportunities for members.

IMPACT Leader: Dyonicia Brown
Dyonicia "Dy" Brown serves as Communications and Outreach Director for Serve DC - The Mayor's Office on Volunteerism. She is the creative force behind all marketing, public relations and advertising for the office. She also spends time focusing on community outreach, volunteering, and strengthening partnerships. Prior to this position, she worked as the Special Assistant to the Executive Director. In this capacity, she created a quarterly newsletter and conducted an overall organizational assessment. Before joining the public sector, she worked with Philip Morris USA, an Altria Company, in the outreach division. During her time there, she worked with the community and trained members of the section sales department.

Dy received a MSA in organizational development from Trinity University in Washington, DC. Dy is also a graduate of Howard University, where she received an undergraduate degree in marketing, with a focus on international business. Her professional and personal background is embedded in a commitment to public service, volunteerism and leadership development. She currently volunteers as a graduate advisor for a collegiate business fraternity, social chair for her alumni board, and is a member of Junior League of Washington.

Dy has volunteered with The Young & Powerful Group since its inception and currently serves as the National Community Service & Outreach Chair. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, writing blogs and the arts. She is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and currently resides in Washington, DC.

Starting back in February 2007, The Young & Powerful Group played a pivotal role in the primary and general elections,raising over $150,000 from over 2500 individual donors for the Obama campaign. In addition, thousands of voters from cities across the nation were registered to vote.

We are continuing this crusade for change and will be hosting a series of events during Inauguration week. It is time to celebrate our collective victory and usher in a new hope.
