Joe D. Briggs,
Director of Strategic Operations
Born and raised in Dundee, Florida, Joe Briggs was a member of the legal staff in Senator Mel Martinez’s Capitol Hill office handling Judiciary and Ethics issues. After finishing his master's degree at Florida A&M University, he completed juris doctorate at the Florida State University School of Law. Most recently, Joe completed his second year of national leadership on the National Black Law Students Association Executive Board. Joe also served as the Lt. Adria Crutchfield,
Director of Political Education
A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, Adria Crutchfield began living and working in Washington, D.C. in January 2005 for Congressman G.K. Butterfield (NC-01) as the healthcare legislative assistant. After nearly one year, she was asked to join the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) as the Director of Special Projects. Ms. Crutchfield has since transitioned into a new position working with members of Congress. A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, she fills her spare time through social justice-related community activism, running, reading, and activities with family and friends. David Johns,
Director of Development
David J. Johns was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and is a graduate of Columbia University. He currently serves as an Education Policy Advisor to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions under the leadership of Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA). His commitment to eliminating barriers to and creating educational opportunities for low income and minority students began while teaching elementary school in New York City; while teaching David simultaneously completed a master's degree in Sociology and Education Policy from Teachers College, Columbia University. In 2007 David was named one of Ebony Magazines "30 Top Leaders Under 30" and his essay "Re-Imagining Black Masculinity" has been published in the National Urban League's 2007 State of Black America Report. Angela Rye, Esq.,
Director of Strategic Partnerships
Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Angela Rye learned the importance of community advocacy through her family's political and community activism. While serving as an intern during law school for Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Angela's passion to effectuate change in the political process led her to the Nation's Capital. Upon graduating from Seattle University School of Law, she began working for NAFEO as the Coordinator of Advocacy and Legislative Affairs where she advocated for black colleges. Angela now serves as the Deputy Policy Director and Counsel to the House Committee on Homeland Security where Congressman Bennie G. Thompson serves as Chairman. You may contact

Ryan M.Scott,
Director of Economic Empowerment
Ryan Scott is a native of Johnstown, Pennsylvania and a graduate of Allegheny College. Currently, Ryan serves as a Financial Advisor at Merrill Lynch where he works with a team called the Washington Renaissance Group. Their focus areas include financial planning, estate planning, insurance and annuities, and business planning. Ryan leads various financial workshops for several young professional organizations.
